Raipur, Nov 4: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who is facing heat for an alleged Rs 508 crore deal with the promoters of the Mahadev app, claimed on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party is most scared of him and is using the Enforcement Directorate to defame him.

“Because BJP is scared of me the most. That’s why they want to defame me by accusing me (through the ED),” Baghel stated to reporters in Raipur.

Earlier on Friday, the Enforcement Directorate stated that they had apprehended Asim Das, a cash courier who had been sent specifically from the United Arab Emirates to carry a substantial quantity of cash for the ruling Congress party of Chhattisgarh’s electioneering costs.

The central agency further said that Asim Das, the arrested individual, admitted that Mahadev APP Promoters have already paid the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Rs 508 crore.

Days before Chhattisgarh’s assembly polls are scheduled, the Congress is raising concerns about the timing of the central agency’s assertions.

Taking notice of the allegations, the BJP questioned on Saturday if it was accurate to say that leaders of the Chhattisgarh Congress received funding from Das to cover their expenses for the state’s impending election.

Union Minister Smriti Irani alleged at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in the nation’s capital that the Congress party is using hawala operators to fight in the Chhattisgarh elections.

In response, Baghel remarked that while Ajit Pawar and Himanta Biswa Sarma were in the opposition, the BJP had previously made accusations against them.

“(And) when they joined your party and were washed with ‘Modi washing powder’, they became neat and clean,” he said.
