PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, November 4: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has reiterated his government’s commitment to developing Chandil Dam in Seraikela-Kharsawan district into a world-class tourism destination, focusing on eco-tourism, local employment, and sustainable development.
Soren visited the dam with his family on Tuesday while travelling to Dhatkidih in the district. Impressed by the surrounding landscape, he said the scenic destination should be prominently featured on Jharkhand’s tourism map.
During the visit, the Chief Minister discussed the proposed development of the dam and its adjoining areas with Deputy Commissioner Nitish Kumar Singh. He directed the district administration to prepare a comprehensive tourism development roadmap while safeguarding the region’s ecological balance.
Plan to improve tourism facilities and infrastructure
Soren called for an integrated development strategy covering tourism infrastructure, water management, the completion of pending works under the Chandil project, and a plan for power generation and its expansion.
He also directed officials to improve visitor facilities, strengthen tourist safety arrangements and modernise boating operations. Tourism activities, he said, should create livelihood opportunities for local youth and rural communities.
The Chief Minister called for a long-term, environment-friendly blueprint to ensure that tourism infrastructure and related activities are developed without damaging the natural surroundings.
Chandil Dam, known for its expansive reservoir and scenic setting against the Dalma hills, has the potential to become one of Jharkhand’s prominent tourism attractions. Planned development could also support the local economy and create opportunities for tourism-related businesses.
