Ranchi, Nov 18: Vinay Ranjan, Director (Personnel/IR), Coal India Limited (CIL), the state-owned coal mining company, received the Green World Awards 2024 during a ceremony at The Orangery, Kensington Palace, London today.

The award was given by The Green Organization, which began in 1994 and is an independent, non-political, non-profit environment group, dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practices and CSR around the world.

Elated to get the award, Vinay Ranjan said, “Let this moment inspire us all to take action, protect our environment, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.”

The Certificate of Achievement was presented to Coal India Ltd in recognition of winning a Green World Award for its commitment to practice best practices for protecting the environment.

 

CIL, living up to its Corporate Citizen role is one of the largest spenders in the country under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Coal India as a corporate entity contributes to the country’s economy apart from its core role as energy provider.

CIL produces over 80% of India’s overall coal production and contributes to 70% of the total coal-based power generation in the country. The company contributes to 55% of total power generation and meets 40% of the primary commercial energy requirements of the country.

The company adopts multiple measures to improve the environment, expand green cover over its mined-out areas, create eco-parks and tourism spots, and provide mine water to lakhs of villagers for domestic and agricultural use.
