Dhanbad, June 6: IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coal India Limited (CIL) for the construction of a state-of-the-art 1,500-seat auditorium in the institute’s Centenary Building.

The MoU was signed by senior officials from both institutions in the presence of Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director (HR), CIL; Achyut Ghatak, Director (Technical), CIL; Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT-ISM; Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT-ISM; and other senior representatives.

According to officials, the collaboration—undertaken as part of CIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative—demonstrates a joint commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and promoting sustainable development.
The new auditorium is being developed as part of IIT-ISM’s centenary celebrations. Established in 1926, the institute will soon mark its 100th anniversary.
CIL officials stated that the company has allocated ₹57 crore for the project. “This initiative is part of CIL’s ongoing CSR efforts to support the development of quality technical education and infrastructure,” said a CIL spokesperson.
