New Delhi, Dec 2: Coal India Limited’s (CIL) coal production grew by 2.4% to 471 million tonnes (MT) in the April-November period of this financial year.

CIL which contributes to more than 80 percent of the country’s coal production, had produced 460 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the same period last year.

CIL’s production also grew by 1.7 percent to reach 67.2 million tonnes (MT) in November, up from 66 million tonnes (MT) in the same month last year, according to CIL’s regulatory filing with the BSE.

CIL’s coal offtake, which refers to the dry fuel supplied from coal pitheads, grew by 1.5 percent to 492.6 million tonnes (MT) during the April-November period of the current fiscal, up from 485.2 million tonnes (MT) in the same period last year.

The company’s November coal offtake remained largely unchanged at 63 million tonnes (MT), compared to 62.9 million tonnes (MT) in the same month of the previous fiscal, according to the filing.

Coal India Ltd reported a production of 773.6 million tonnes of coal in 2023-24, falling short of its target of 780 million tonnes for the fiscal year. In comparison, its production was 703.2 million tonnes in the previous fiscal year, 2022-23.
