Ranchi, September 3: The month of August was not particularly favourable for Coal India Limited. According to the information provided by Coal India to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), there was not only a decline in coal production in August this year but also a reduction in the offtake of the already extracted coal.
According to the data, coal production decreased by 11.9%, while the offtake stood at 52.1 million tons. In comparison, in August 2023, the offtake was 59.1 million tons.

However, the company produced more coal in the first quarter of this financial year compared to the same quarter last year. In the first quarter of last year, 281.5 million tons of coal were produced, whereas in the first quarter of this year, 290.4 million tons of coal were produced.
According to the information provided to the BSE, coal production in August 2024 was 46.1 million tons, whereas in August 2023, 52.3 million tons of coal were produced. Last year, in August, the offtake was 59.1 million tons, while this year, it could only reach 52.1 million tons.
For the financial year 2023-24, Coal India had set a target of 780 million tons, but 773.6 million tons of coal were produced.
