PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, Dec 4: The India Meteorological Department’s Ranchi Centre has issued a cold-wave alert for Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Gumla, Latehar, Lohardaga, and Simdega for December 5 and 6, as winter conditions intensify across the state.
Temperature Forecast
According to the IMD, minimum temperatures in many parts of western Jharkhand are expected to drop to 8–10°C, with some areas likely falling even lower due to clear skies and dry northerly winds.
A sharp fall in night temperatures, along with increased wind chill, may make conditions feel much colder than the actual readings.

Fog and Visibility
Early-morning fog and mist are expected in several districts, which may reduce visibility to 600–800 metres and affect road travel during peak morning hours.
Daytime Conditions
Daytime temperatures are also likely to remain cool, with a noticeable drop in afternoon warmth.
Advisory for Residents
The IMD has advised residents to take precautions, especially the elderly, children, and people with respiratory issues.
People are urged to stay indoors during late-night and early-morning hours, wear adequate warm clothing, and avoid unnecessary travel when visibility is low.
Broader Weather Trend
The cold-wave conditions are part of a wider cooling trend expected across central and eastern India this week, with Jharkhand among the regions facing an early rise in winter intensity.
