Jamshedpur, September 25: Jharkhand remained under the influence of a deep depression for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, with widespread rainfall affecting several parts of the state and triggering concern in low-lying areas.
Several parts of Kolhan received spells of heavy rain, leading to waterlogging on roads and disrupting normal traffic movement. The persistent rainfall also pushed the Kharkai River above the danger mark, raising concerns for settlements and other low-lying areas along its banks.
Heavy to very heavy rain forecast in southern Jharkhand
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in southern Jharkhand, particularly Simdega, adjoining central districts such as Gumla and Lohardaga, and parts of Latehar.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are also likely over central parts of the state, while winds of 40–50 kmph may prevail in other areas.
River levels under close watch
With the wet spell continuing, water levels in other rivers and reservoirs across Kolhan are also being closely monitored.
The ongoing rain has affected traffic movement in several urban areas, with water accumulating on roads and in low-lying stretches.
Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living near rivers and other water bodies, to remain alert and exercise caution as the weather system continues to influence Jharkhand.
