Jamshedpur, Sept 24: The deep depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha is expected to weaken gradually, but its north-northwestward movement is likely to keep Jharkhand under the influence of enhanced moisture and unsettled weather conditions over the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system moved northwestwards at about 7 kmph during the six hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday.
It was centred over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha near 18.5°N latitude and 83.5°E longitude, about 80 km south-southeast of Rayagada and 90 km east-southeast of Koraput in Odisha.

System likely to weaken into depression
The IMD has forecast that the weather system will move north-northwestwards and weaken into a depression by Thursday evening.
It is expected to continue moving in the same direction while weakening over the subsequent 24 hours. However, the weakening of the system is not expected to immediately bring an end to rainfall activity over Jharkhand.
The system’s circulation and associated moisture are likely to maintain a moist atmosphere over the state, resulting in cloudy skies, rain and thunderstorms in several areas.
Southern, central Jharkhand likely to see more activity
Southern and central Jharkhand, particularly East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and adjoining districts, could experience more noticeable weather activity as the system moves north-northwestwards.
Some areas may also receive isolated heavy rainfall, depending on the system’s movement and rate of weakening.
Meteorologists said that even as the depression weakens, its circulation and moisture feed could continue to influence weather conditions across the region.
For Jamshedpur and adjoining areas, the system could mean further spells of rain, cloudy weather and thunderstorms over the next couple of days.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
The latest weather development comes amid intermittent spells of rain and thunderstorms in Jharkhand under the influence of successive weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining eastern India.
