Deep Depression Strengthens Monsoon

The deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coast moved very slowly northwards and was centred near Sagar Island. It is expected to move in a north-northwesterly direction before crossing the West Bengal-North Odisha coast.

Meteorologists said the weather system, coupled with the active monsoon trough passing through Jamshedpur, is likely to enhance moisture incursion into Jharkhand, resulting in widespread rainfall. An upper-air trough extending from southwest Rajasthan to the deep depression through Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand is also supporting the prevailing weather conditions.

IMD Issues Safety Advisory

The IMD has advised people to avoid taking shelter under isolated trees during thunderstorms, stay away from waterlogged areas and unsecured structures, and keep track of official weather updates, particularly in districts expected to receive heavy rainfall.
