New Delhi, April 23: A high-level meeting was convened at the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists were killed and several others injured.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting, which was attended by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, and other senior officials.

Following the meeting, reports indicate that a key decision has been made concerning national security. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi were also present and briefed the Defence Minister on the security situation in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and surrounding areas following the attack.

In response, the Army, Navy, and Air Force have been placed on high alert. The Indian Army has been directed to maintain full preparedness along the Pakistan border. According to sources, the meeting also reviewed all aspects related to the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

A detailed discussion on the issue is expected during today’s meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs.

On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had expressed deep anguish over the attack, condemning it as a cowardly and reprehensible assault on innocent civilians.

A massive manhunt is underway to capture the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam.

The Resistance Front, a proxy outfit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the carnage.

Security agencies have released a photo and sketches of three suspected terrorists involved in the attack. Among them, the individuals identified are Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha. The released image shows the suspects armed with three AK-series rifles and an M4 carbine.

Authorities believe at least two of the attackers are foreign nationals and all are affiliated with the Lashkar network.
