Dhanbad division realises ₹4.70 lakh fine in 12-hour ticket checking drive

Dhanbad, Nov 23: A fine of ₹4.70 lakh was realised from without-ticket travellers during a 12-hour mega checking campaign conducted at multiple stations under the Dhanbad Rail Division of East Central Railway (ECR). The extensive ticket checking drive, which is one of the largest recently undertaken in Jharkhand railway operations, aimed to curb rising cases of ticketless passengers in the Dhanbad railway jurisdiction.

Senior Divisional Commerce Manager (Sr DCM) of Dhanbad Rail Division, Md Iqbal, informed that the checking was carried out day and night across key railway stations and mail–express trains. In total, 840 passengers were caught travelling without valid tickets, leading to the immediate recovery of ₹4,70,300. This reflects the division’s renewed focus on strict enforcement against unauthorised travel across the East Central Railway network.

The Sr DCM further said that, apart from without-ticket travellers, several passengers were penalised for carrying unbooked luggage and for unauthorised travel—issues frequently noticed in busy routes of the Dhanbad railway sector. All such passengers were issued proper tickets and were allowed to continue their journey after being warned not to travel without valid documentation in the future.

Md Iqbal noted that the Dhanbad Rail Division will continue such large-scale ticket checking campaigns to increase passenger awareness and ensure compliance with railway rules across Jharkhand’s busiest train corridors.
