Dhanbad, Nov 18: A youth was critically injured after bike-borne assailants shot him on a busy stretch near the Katras More petrol pump in Jharia on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place in broad daylight under the Jharia police station area.

Attack in Full Public View

According to police officials, the youth was walking alone by the roadside when three men on a motorcycle approached him from behind. One of the riders allegedly fired a shot at his head at close range. The youth collapsed instantly, and the assailants fled before bystanders could react.

Victim Unidentified; Condition Critical

On receiving information, Jharia police station in-charge Shashi Ranjan Kumar and Sindri SDPO Ashutosh Kumar Satyam reached the spot. The injured youth was rushed to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad.
Doctors at the emergency ward said the youth’s condition was critical.

The victim has not yet been identified. Police recovered a mobile phone, a slipper, and an empty cartridge from the scene.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the locality to identify the attackers. Preliminary findings suggest personal enmity may have been the motive.

A local trader said the attack has created panic in the area, especially because it occurred on a crowded road in broad daylight. An eyewitness told police that three people were on the bike, and one of them fired the shot.

Police: “Criminals Will Be Nabbed Soon”

SDPO Ashutosh Kumar Satyam told mediapersons that the police are working on several leads and expressed confidence that the assailants would be arrested soon.
