Dhanbad police nab 9 cyber criminals, seize cash, mobile phones

Dhanbad, October 7:  In a breakthrough against cybercrime, Dhanbad Police have arrested nine suspected cyber criminals operating across Jharkhand and West Bengal. The arrests were made during a raid at a hotel under the Bank More police station area, where officers also seized cash, mobile phones, and other electronic devices.

Police Raid at Hotel Castle Leads to Multiple Arrests

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar informed the media on Tuesday evening that the accused have been identified as Arnav Kumar Roy (33) of Howrah, West Bengal; Kumar Vishal Singh (25) of Sudamdih, Dhanbad; Sumit Kumar (32) of Dhanbad; Rijwan Khan (24) of Chas, Bokaro; Rahul Kumar Roy (25) of Pathardih, Dhanbad; Vishal Kumar (20) of Sudamdih, Dhanbad; Md Asif (21) of Chas, Bokaro; Md Mobiser Alam (24) of Bank More, Dhanbad; and Raj Kumar Singh (31) of Chas, Bokaro.

Acting on a tip-off, a special police team raided Hotel Castle on the Bank More–Jharia Road on Monday. The team apprehended all nine suspects from a hotel room and recovered electronic gadgets and cash in their possession. “Their interrogation is currently underway,” said SSP Prabhat Kumar.

Seized Items Include Phones, Cash, and Bank Cards

During the operation, police recovered 17 mobile phones with SIM cards from different service providers, ₹5,80,700 in cash, 23 ATM cards from various banks, one Apple iPad, one Dell laptop, and several images of bank account details stored in the suspects’ phones.

“This is the first time that nine cyber criminals have been arrested together from a single hotel room in Dhanbad with such a large amount of electronic evidence and cash,” SSP Kumar added.

Cyber Fraud Network Under Investigation

According to police sources, the arrested individuals confessed to their involvement in cyber fraud. They revealed that, with the help of accomplices, they obtained bank accounts and used them to cheat people by installing malicious applications on their mobile phones.

The raid was led by Bank More police station officer-in-charge Praveen Kumar. The team included Tarique Wasim, Abhay Kumar, S. Ansari, Sanjay Kumar Kushwaha, Soyna Singh Munda, and Surendra Singh.
