Dhanbad Nov 7: The Dhanbad police claimed to have busted an organized bike lifters’ gang by arresting two of its members and recovering seven stolen vehicles.
The arrested persons were identified as Pradip Nag alias Sudip of Nirsa and Sheikh Afujuddin. The arrested bike lifters revealed that their gang steals vehicles and after modification sells them to coal thieves operating in Dhanbad and other districts.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP headquarter-1) Amar Kumar Pandey told media persons that raids are being conducted in different places inside and outside the district for arresting other members of the bike lifters gang and recovery of other stolen vehicles based on arrested persons’ interrogation.
Disclosing the arrest of the kingpin of the bike gang lifter, the DSP said that on the directive of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), a special crime checking drive was launched on Sunday night under the Maithon OP near Jharkhand–Bengal border.
Sub Inspector Manoj Kumar Ojha was leading the checking campaign. At around 11.30 pm when police tried to stop a rider without a number plate bike, he fled away at speed. However, the police team chased and caught him.
The arrested person Pradip Nag during his interrogation admitted that he was involved in a gang and disclosed the names of his associates. On the revelation of Pradip and Afujuddin, police recovered seven stolen bikes from different places.
“The names of bike owners are being traced to hand them over their bikes. The search for other stolen bikes is also under progress on the revelation of arrested persons,” the DSP said.
