Dhanbad, Jan 21: Doctors at Dhanbad Sadar Hospital on Wednesday successfully performed a rare hysterectomy surgery on a woman patient, marking a significant medical achievement for the six-year-old government hospital.
The surgery team, led by gynaecologist Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital, removed a large 2-kg fibroid from the uterus of the patient.
The operation was carried out using the available facilities at the hospital and was completed successfully.

Patient Suffered for Nearly a Year
The patient, Noori Parveen (36), wife of Md Sadam and a resident of Rahmatganj, Pandar Pala in Dhanbad, had been suffering from excessive menstrual bleeding for nearly one year.
Despite seeking treatment at several private clinics and nursing homes, she did not get relief. Diagnostic tests revealed a uterine fibroid, but due to financial constraints, timely treatment was not possible. Over time, the fibroid grew so large that her abdomen appeared similar to that of a pregnant woman, and the bleeding became severe.

Surgery Done Under Ayushman Bharat Scheme
On the advice of a close relative, Noori Parveen consulted Dr Sanjeev Kumar at Sadar Hospital. After examination, the doctor decided to perform surgery using the hospital’s facilities.
Considering her critical condition, one unit of blood was transfused before the operation. After surgery, the patient’s condition was reported to be stable and satisfactory.
Patient Expresses Relief and Gratitude
Speaking after the surgery, Noori Parveen said she received lifelong relief due to the successful operation and thanked the doctors and hospital management.
She said private hospitals had quoted ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 for the surgery, which her family could not afford. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the operation was carried out completely free of cost.
Hospital Team Felicitated
Civil Surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma congratulated Dr Sanjeev Kumar and his team for performing the rare surgery. Other members of the surgical team included Dr Anand (anaesthetist), OT assistant Madusudan Marandi, and Sister Rekha Mahto.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar, who was earlier felicitated by the chairman-cum-managing director of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) for record gynaecological surgeries, said the credit for the successful operation goes to the entire medical team of the hospital.
