Dr DK Sinha takes charge as RIMS Director amid CID probe

RANCHI, June 25: The Jharkhand government has appointed Dr Dipendra Kumar Sinha, Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), as the institute’s Director with immediate effect, following the resignation of Dr Rajkumar amid ongoing Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigations into alleged irregularities in MBBS admissions and sanitation tenders.

The Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare issued a notification assigning Dr Sinha the additional charge of Director as an interim arrangement until further orders. The notification said the appointment had been approved by the competent departmental authority.

Besides serving as Professor of Surgery, Dr Sinha will now oversee the administrative and academic functioning of the state’s premier medical institution.

Resignation accepted amid investigations

The appointment comes after the Health Department accepted the resignation of former Director Dr Rajkumar, whose exit coincides with multiple CID investigations concerning the institute.

On Wednesday, two CID teams visited RIMS to probe separate cases involving alleged irregularities in admissions and procurement.

CID probes fake admissions and sanitation tenders

One CID team investigated allegations that students had secured admission to MBBS and BDS courses using forged documents, while another examined alleged irregularities in sanitation service tenders awarded by the institute.

As part of the investigation, CID officials questioned the RIMS Dean, the Medical Superintendent and other senior officials. They also seized copies of several key documents related to both cases for further examination.

The investigations are expected to continue as the agency scrutinises records linked to the admission process and sanitation contracts.
