New Delhi, April 25: The Election Commission has issued notices to BJP and Congress in the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation case.

The Commission has taken cognizance of the alleged code of conduct violations in the speeches of PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi.

The Election Commission has sought answers from BJP President JP Nadda and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge by 11 am on April 29.

The Election Commission has asked the presidents of both parties to respond under Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act.

Both BJP and Congress had accused each other of creating hatred and division on the basis of religion, caste, community or language.

The Election Commission believes that the campaign speeches of people holding high positions have more serious consequences.

It said that political parties will have to take primary responsibility for the conduct of their candidates, especially star campaigners.
