Kolkata, August 25: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday carried out raids at multiple locations linked to Jiban Krishna Saha, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Burwan constituency in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, along with some of his relatives.
According to official sources, the searches were conducted in connection with alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and staff in schools.
The raids were carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following which the MLA was arrested.

Reports suggest that when the ED team arrived, Saha attempted to escape by jumping over a wall, but was eventually chased down and caught from a nearby field.
Earlier in 2023, he had been arrested by the CBI in the same scam but was later released.
The ED’s money laundering case is linked to a CBI FIR filed after the Calcutta High Court ordered an investigation into irregularities in the recruitment of assistant teachers for classes 9 to 12 and in primary schools.
In the same case, the ED had earlier arrested former state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, his aide Arpita Mukherjee, TMC MLA and former primary education board chairman Manik Bhattacharya.
