Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today began to grill Birsa Munda Central Jail Superintendent Hamid Akhtar on how the high-profile inmates booked in land and mining scams conspired against the agency sleuths.

Akhtar’s statement will be crucial as jailer Md Nashim Khan and head clerk Danish, interrogated earlier, passed the buck on the ‘senior officers’ for the conspiracy to harm the ED officers as well as influencing the central probe agency’s witnesses from the jail.

This is the second time that the ED is quizzing Akhtar for his role in creating hinderance in its probe into money laundering cases and also destroying the digital evidence that would expose the sordid state of affairs in the jail.

The ED had interrogated the head clerk of the jail on Tuesday and the jailer on Wednesday.

The ED had raided Birsa Munda Central Jail on the evening of November 3 on the information received by it from surveillance in the money laundering case. It had received information that the ED witnesses were being threatened from the jail. A conspiracy is being hatched to implicate ED officers. Efforts are being made to destroy important evidence in the money laundering cases. During raids, the ED had seized the mobile phone of the head clerk Danish. During the investigation, the ED got information that Danish was threatening witnesses of money laundering through his mobile. Numbers of many witnesses and recordings of conversations have been found on his mobile.

The ED also got information that scamster Prem Prakash was running his syndicate in Birsa Munda Central Jail. He was planning on what to do and what not to do to cause harm to the ED officers. For this, Prem Prakash is also planning how much money is to be sent where. Prem Prakash is also plotting against ED and is giving directions to his associates outside the jail. He is also trying to influence the ED witnesses. He is also convincing the witnesses to implicate the ED officials by filing a false case under the ST/SC Act.
