Eight Naxals killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh

Dantewada, May 24: In the border region of the Narayanpur and Bijapur districts in Chhattisgarh, eight Naxalites were killed in an ongoing gunfight with security forces that began yesterday.

Joint teams of District Reserve Guards (DRG) from Bastar, Dantewada, and Narayanpur, as well as members of the Special Task Force (STF), responded to the intelligence alert by conducting a coordinated search operation in the region.

However, Naxals ambushed the police force on their way back on Friday, sparking a gunfight.

Although taken by surprise, STF personnel responded by returning fire.

After the firefight, the security forces carried out an extensive search operation in the area which is still ongoing.

Chief Minister of Chattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai, praised the security forces and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating Naxalism.
