New Delhi, Feb 12: A Delhi court on Wednesday convicted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in connection with the killings of two individuals during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the Saraswati Vihar area.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who pronounced the verdict, scheduled arguments on the sentencing for February 18.
Details of the Case and Prosecution’s Allegations
The case pertains to the murders of Jaswant Singh and his son, Tarundeep Singh, on November 1, 1984, amid widespread violence following the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Jaswant Singh’s wife, the complainant, alleged that her house was targeted, her husband and son were killed, and their property was set on fire.
Court’s Observations and Kumar’s Role
Initially registered at the Punjabi Bagh police station, the case was later transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for further probe.
After reviewing the evidence, the court, on December 16, 2021, framed charges against Kumar, determining that there was a “prima facie” case against him.
The court order noted substantial evidence indicating that Kumar was not just present but actively led the mob responsible for the violence.
He was brought from Tihar Jail for the verdict, marking another key development in the long-pending legal proceedings surrounding the 1984 riots.
