Patna, May 15: The Bihar Congress announced on Wednesday that it has gained strength with the addition of former JD(U) leader and MLA Poonam Devi Yadav.
She joined the Congress in the presence of state president Akhilesh Prasad Singh at the BPCC headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram in Patna.
Yadav, who had secured victory in the Khagaria assembly seat for three consecutive terms, was narrowly defeated by Chhatrapati Yadav of the Congress in the 2020 elections, with a slim margin of 3,000 votes.

Ranveer Yadav, her husband, had previously secured victory in the seat as an Independent candidate in 1990.
Speaking to reporters after joining Congress, she remarked, “I feel that I have returned home after a long ‘vanvaas’ (period spent in wilderness). Old timers would recall that I had made my debut in the late 1990s on a Congress ticket. After my defeat, leaders of the Samata Party (now JDU) convinced me to cross over, stressing that Congress was a spent force”.
