Jamshedpur, June 29: Panic gripped Shalimar Market in Jamshedpur’s Sakchi area on Monday afternoon after an alleged extortion attempt turned violent, leaving three people seriously injured in a knife attack.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the accused, who was reportedly known to frequent a shop in the market, allegedly demanded extortion money from local shopkeepers.
When the demand was resisted, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked people present at the spot, triggering panic in the busy marketplace as shoppers and traders ran for safety.

Three Injured in Knife Attack
The injured have been identified as Minadul Haque and Md Taju, both residents of Mohammadan Line in Sakchi, and Abdul Masjid, a resident of Luka Road, Sakchi.
Local shopkeepers and passers-by rushed the injured to MGM Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police Probe Underway
On receiving information, Sakchi police reached the spot, secured the area and began collecting evidence.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the market to identify and trace the accused.
Police said a detailed investigation is underway and efforts have been intensified to arrest the suspect at the earliest.
Security has also been strengthened in the market to prevent any further untoward incidents.
