Ranchi, August 29: In a 15-year-old case of land purchase and sale in violation of the CNT Act, the CBI special court in Ranchi has convicted former minister Enos Ekka, his wife Menon Ekka, then LRDC of Ranchi Kartik Kumar Prabhat, along with seven others.

All the convicted have been sent to judicial custody, and the court has fixed August 30 as the date for hearing on the quantum of punishment. The trial in this case was conducted by CBI’s special public prosecutor Priyanshu Singh.

Enos Ekka was accused of misusing his position as minister to purchase tribal land using fake addresses.

Then LRDC Kartik Kumar Prabhat allegedly aided him. With the connivance of administrative officials and staff, large-scale land deals were executed.
Several properties were purchased in the name of Menon Ekka, including 22 kathas in Hinoo, 12 acres in Ormanjhi, 4 acres in Newri, and 9 decimals in Chutia’s Sirm Toli Mouza.

These transactions took place between March 2006 and May 2008. All charges framed by the CBI were upheld in court, leading to the conviction of the accused.
