Bhubaneswar, August 25: Former BJP legislator Karendra Majhi, a prominent tribal leader from Odisha’s Kandhamal district, passed away at the age of 52 while receiving treatment for kidney-related complications at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Sunday night.

Majhi, who hailed from the Kutia Kondh tribe and was the community’s first postgraduate, was also a noted writer, having authored three books in the Kui language.

He had represented Baliguda constituency in the state assembly after winning elections in 2004 and 2009.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over his demise, calling it an “irreparable loss” and praying for peace to the departed soul.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP state president Manmohan Samal visited the hospital to pay their respects.

On Monday, Majhi’s mortal remains were brought to the assembly, where leaders from across party lines offered floral tributes, before being taken to the BJP state office for the final homage.
