New Delhi, Dec 18: The ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill will be sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Reports suggest that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will constitute the JPC.

According to sources, the Congress party has finalized four names for its representatives in the JPC. These names will be submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker.

As per sources, Congress has finalized the names of Manish Tiwari, Priyanka Gandhi, Sukhdev Bhagat, and Randeep Surjewala for the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). These four names will be sent by Congress as its representatives for the JPC. These members will present Congress’s stance on the ‘One Nation-One Election’ issue in the committee.

Manish Tiwari and Randeep Surjewala are lawyers by profession, Sukhdev Bhagat is recognized as a tribal leader, and Priyanka Gandhi will represent women’s leadership.

The JPC is formed by including members from both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. The committee’s role is to review any issue or bill and prepare a report, which is then submitted to the government.

The decision on the number of members in the JPC will be made by the Lok Sabha Speaker. The committee will include members from both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, with the number of Lok Sabha members being double that of the Rajya Sabha members.

Notably, the One Nation-One Election Bill is a Constitutional amendment, and the government will require a special majority to get it passed.
