Jamshedpur, September 11: A fresh low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas is likely to influence weather conditions over Jharkhand, triggering spells of heavy rain across several parts of the state over the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that the low-pressure area persisted over the same region, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.4 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.

The weather system, along with other favourable monsoon features, is expected to intensify rainfall activity over Jharkhand.

The IMD has forecast heavy rain at isolated places over north-western and southern parts of Jharkhand on Friday.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely at isolated places across the state, the weather office said.

The impact of the system is expected to continue on Saturday, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph likely at isolated places.

Heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated locations in parts of Jharkhand during the period.

Monsoon systems to remain active

The prevailing synoptic situation remains favourable for enhanced rainfall over Jharkhand.

A trough extending from north Haryana to the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal is passing through Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand and extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently runs from Jammu, Dehradun, Fatehgarh, Prayagraj and Ambikapur through Jharsuguda to the centre of the low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. It then extends east-southeastwards towards the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The combination of the low-pressure area, associated cyclonic circulation and the active monsoon trough is likely to keep Jharkhand under an active weather regime, with intermittent heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days.

Residents are advised to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning activity and follow weather advisories issued by the IMD and local authorities.
