Fresh low-pressure system to bring rain, thunderstorms across Jharkhand

PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Sept 9: Jharkhand is likely to experience another spell of unsettled weather over the next few days, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall forecast across several parts of the state from September 9 to 13.

According to the latest weather outlook, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places across Jharkhand on September 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Heavy rain forecast in several districts

On September 9, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over the north-eastern parts and adjoining central areas, including Bokaro and Dhanbad, as well as south-eastern districts such as West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan.

On September 10, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the central districts of Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Bokaro and Dhanbad, besides the adjoining north-eastern districts of Giridih, Deoghar and Jamtara.

The weather system is likely to remain active on September 11, when isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over the north-western parts of the state. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may continue at isolated places.

Similar thunderstorm and lightning activity, accompanied by gusty winds, is likely to persist on September 12, indicating continued atmospheric instability over the state.

Low-pressure area likely over Bay of Bengal

The weather conditions are being influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast. The system persists and now extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on September 10.

The monsoon trough, meanwhile, continues to run through Jammu, Dehradun, Pantnagar, Basti, Chapra, Purulia and Digha before extending southeastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The formation of the fresh low-pressure area is likely to enhance moisture incursion and rainfall activity over Jharkhand. Several districts may therefore remain vulnerable to sudden heavy showers, lightning and gusty winds during the period.
