Jamshedpur, September 8: In a major relief for taxpayers, traders and GST professionals, the GST department will set up a Central Processing Centre (CPC) in Jamshedpur from October 1 to handle GST registrations and other related matters.
The decision follows a long-standing demand of the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), which had repeatedly taken up the issue with senior officials, citing difficulties faced by the business community due to centralised processing of GST registrations and related applications.
Local GST processing to reduce delays and costs
The new facility is expected to make GST-related services more accessible to taxpayers across the Jamshedpur Commissionerate. At present, central processing of registrations and related applications has been handled first from Patna and subsequently from Ranchi.
With the CPC becoming operational in Jamshedpur, taxpayers and GST practitioners are expected to benefit from quicker processing, easier local access and reduced expenditure on travel, time and administrative procedures.
SCCI welcomes decision
The SCCI welcomed the decision, saying it would provide significant relief to traders, taxpayers and GST practitioners in the region.
SCCI Vice-President and advocate Rajiv Agarwal and Secretary Anshul Ringasia said the establishment of the CPC would make GST services more accessible, prompt, efficient and convenient for the business community.
SCCI President Manav Kedia described the decision as a significant and positive development for the region’s business community.
He said the acceptance of the chamber’s long-standing demand reflected the GST department’s understanding of the practical difficulties faced by traders, taxpayers and GST professionals and its willingness to address them.

Kedia expressed special gratitude to the Chief Commissioner of the Bihar and Jharkhand Zone and Anand Kumar, IRS, Commissioner, CGST & CX, Jamshedpur, for their positive approach and cooperation in making the facility possible in Jamshedpur.
SCCI General Secretary Punit Kauntia also welcomed the move, saying the CPC would enable taxpayers across the Jamshedpur Commissionerate to access improved GST services while saving considerable time and resources.
The trade body expressed hope that the CPC, scheduled to begin operations from October 1, would help ensure faster processing, better accessibility and greater convenience for the business community in Jamshedpur and across the entire Jamshedpur Commissionerate.
