PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur. January 12: To ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety during Makar Sankranti and the Tusu festival, the East Singhbhum district administration has imposed a two-day restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles in Jamshedpur.

The decision has been taken in view of the large crowds expected on city roads for religious rituals and festive gatherings.

Timings of the Restriction

According to the official order, the movement of all heavy vehicles will remain prohibited within Jamshedpur city limits from 4 am to 11 pm on January 14 and again from 4 am to 11 pm on January 15.

The restriction will apply to all categories of heavy vehicles, including trucks, dumpers, trailers and other transport vehicles. However, public buses have been exempted to ensure that regular passenger services remain unaffected.

Aim to Reduce Congestion and Accidents

The administration believes that the temporary curbs will help reduce traffic congestion and minimise the risk of accidents, especially as devotees and families head towards river ghats and public places to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Tusu.

Order Issued Jointly by District Authorities

The order has been jointly issued by the Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum, the Senior Superintendent of Police, and the Superintendent of Police (Traffic). It has been circulated to all police stations and concerned departments for strict enforcement.

Traffic police and district police personnel have been instructed to remain vigilant and ensure compliance with the restrictions.

Advisory to Transporters

Transporters and heavy vehicle owners have been advised to plan their movements accordingly and cooperate with the authorities. The administration has also directed officials to widely publicise the order so that residents and commercial operators are informed well in advance.

Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against violators.

The move aims to ensure that people can celebrate Makar Sankranti and Tusu in a safe, orderly, and hassle-free manner in Jamshedpur.
