Dhanbad Nov 17: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad celebrated Janjatiya Gaurav Divas by hosting a series of cultural programmes of dance, drama, music, painting competitions and quiz contests on various tribal matters.
The programme started at 6 pm on Thursday at the institution’s Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre (GJBT) and continued till late evening. The students in large numbers participated in different events related to tribal culture to mark the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebration.
An IIT ISM official said Janjatiya Gaurav Divas was celebrated in the institution under the programme of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The ministry has decided to celebrate the 3rd Janjatiya Gaurav Divas from November 15 to November 26 this year to coincide with Constitution Day nationwide.
IIT ISM deputy director Prof Dheeraj Kumar, Prof Rajni Singh, Dean, Corporate Communications, Prof Bobby Antony, Dean of Students’ Welfare and other senior faculty members were present throughout the function.
“The programme was organized as per the initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to commemorate the contributions of tribal communities in national history and culture and motivate the coming generation to protect our cultural heritage and national pride,” said the official.
The IIT ISM official said as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebration Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on November 15 inaugurated the Aquamarine Hostel of the institute during a function held at Ulihatu in Khunti District.
