IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Chairman Prof. Prem Vrat felicitated at World Wisdom Connect

Dhanbad, August 25: Prof. Prem Vrat, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, was felicitated with a medal and certificate by the Global Board of the IIT Alumni Council in recognition of his contributions and achievements chronicled in his recently published autobiography, My Sixty Years as an IITian: Experiences and Lessons.

The felicitation took place at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on August 23 during the World Wisdom Connect event. The honour was presented by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Recognition for Five Decades of Contribution

Expressing his appreciation for the recognition, Prof. Vrat said the honour reflected the values, experiences and lessons he had gathered during his long journey in academics, institution-building, research and public service.

A distinguished academician, institution builder and management expert, Prof. Vrat has been associated with the Indian higher education system for more than five decades.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and has previously served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Mandi. He was the Founder Director of IIT Roorkee and Vice-Chancellor of U.P. Technical University, Lucknow.

He has also held several key academic and leadership positions at IIT Delhi and other premier institutions in India and abroad.

First IIT Kharagpur Alumnus to Head an IIT

An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Vrat was the first alumnus of the institute to become the Director of an IIT.

His academic career includes guiding 50 PhD scholars and publishing more than 524 research papers. His scholarly work has received more than 11,500 citations.

Prof. Vrat has received several national and international honours, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT Kharagpur, the Distinguished Service Award of IIT Delhi and multiple lifetime achievement recognitions.

Through his contributions to education, research, management science and institution-building, Prof. Vrat continues to influence and inspire generations of students and academics.

The IIT (ISM) Dhanbad fraternity congratulated Prof. Prem Vrat on the recognition and wished him continued success in his academic and leadership journey.
