Dhanbad, September 17: Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has been conferred with the prestigious Visvesvaraya Award 2026 by the Odisha Engineers’ Forum in recognition of his more than 35 years of contribution to engineering, research and technological advancement.
The award was presented during the Engineers’ Day celebration organised by the forum on September 15, 2026, at Sarala Bhavan, Tulasipur, Cuttack.
The recognition acknowledges Prof. Mishra’s contributions to electrical engineering, research, technological innovation and academic leadership, adding to the growing recognition of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s academic and research achievements.
Recognition for Engineering and Research Contributions
The award ceremony was attended by engineers, academicians and members of the Odisha Engineers’ Forum. Prof. Mishra received the award and citation in recognition of his professional contributions and sustained efforts towards advancing engineering education and research.
Prof. Sukumar Mishra assumed charge as Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on May 15, 2024. An established researcher and academic administrator, he has contributed extensively to power systems, power quality studies, renewable energy and smart grid technologies.
Before joining IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Prof. Mishra held leadership positions at IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi Campus, including Dean, Research and External Engagement, and Associate Dean (Research and Development).
He has also been associated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and served as a member of the Executive Committee of the IEEE Delhi Section.
Recipient of Several Prestigious Awards
During his career, Prof. Mishra has received several awards, including the INSA Medal for Young Scientists, INAE Young Engineer Award, Samanta Chandra Shekhar Award, NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award, INAE Outstanding Teachers Award and Innovation Leadership Award.
He is a Fellow of several professional bodies, including the Indian National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Sciences, India, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK, and the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.
His professional experience also includes industrial consultancy assignments with organisations such as Tata Power and Microtek, along with his involvement in applied technological innovation.
The Visvesvaraya Award 2026 adds another significant honour to Prof. Mishra’s career and recognises his sustained contributions to engineering education, research and technological development in India.
