Dhanbad, March 18:
Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has been selected for the prestigious Shri Om Prakash Bhasin Award 2023 in the field of Engineering, including Energy and Aerospace.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, along with a citation and plaque, and recognises outstanding contributions to engineering research, innovation, and scientific leadership.

Recognition for Contributions to Energy and Technology

The Shri Om Prakash Bhasin Awards for Science and Technology honour significant contributions in both pure and applied sciences that have a strong impact on national development.

Prof. Mishra has been recognised for his pioneering work in power systems, renewable energy integration, and smart grid technologies. His work plays an important role in advancing India’s sustainable energy goals.

Award with a Distinguished Legacy

The award has a long history of recognising leading scientists and engineers in India. Past recipients include eminent figures such as Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Dr. Raja Ramanna, Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, and others.

It has been conferred by top national leaders, including Presidents and Prime Ministers, highlighting its importance in the scientific community.

Illustrious Academic and Leadership Career

Prof. Mishra is a globally respected academician with extensive experience in research and institutional leadership.

Before becoming Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, he served at IIT Delhi in key roles, including Associate Dean (R&D) and Dean at the IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi campus. He began his academic career at Sambalpur University and later contributed to Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

Multiple Awards and Global Recognition

His achievements include several prestigious honours such as the INSA Young Scientist Medal, INAE Young Engineer Award, NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award, and the INAE Outstanding Teachers Award.

He is also a Fellow of IEEE, INAE, NASI, and other professional bodies, reflecting his global academic standing.

Industry Collaboration and Innovation

Prof. Mishra has actively worked to strengthen industry-academia collaboration. He has been associated with organisations like Tata Power and Microtek and founded SILOV Solutions Private Limited to promote applied research and innovation.

This recognition further strengthens IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s reputation as a leading centre for research and technological innovation, especially in the field of energy and engineering.
