Dhanbad, Jan 15: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (NIAMT), Ranchi, to enhance the manufacturing of mining machinery.
The MoU aims to develop mining machinery in alignment with Industry 4.0 principles, focusing on sustainability and a circular manufacturing framework.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT ISM, and Prof. Partha Protim Chattopadhyay, Director of NIAMT Ranchi, representing their respective institutions.

The collaboration highlights networking, knowledge exchange, and mutual benefits. Both institutions will engage in reciprocal participation and frequent interactions to foster growth and technological advancements.

Focus areas of collaboration
The MoU outlines key areas for joint research and development, with collaborative projects aimed at advancing manufacturing technologies.
The two institutions will pool their resources, expertise, and facilities for mutual growth, including opportunities for students and faculty to engage in knowledge-sharing initiatives and explore automation and technology integration in manufacturing processes.
NIAMT, formerly known as the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, is a premier institution specializing in advanced engineering education, research, and consultancy.
The collaboration with IIT ISM Dhanbad is expected to bring significant advancements in the manufacturing sector, contributing to a sustainable, technology-driven future.

Experts present at the signing event
The signing ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Dr. Suvrokamal Dutta, an internationally recognized expert in political, economic, and foreign policy, along with faculty members from both institutions, such as Prof. Dheeraj Kumar (Deputy Director, IIT ISM), Prof. Alok Das (Dean of Industry Institute Engagement), Prof. Sagar Pal (Dean of Research and Development), and others. Prof. Anoop Kumar Sood from NIAMT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering also participated.
