Dhanbad, June 19: IIT (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad has launched a high-level academic exposure program in collaboration with St. Petersburg Mining University, Russia. This initiative is designed for students and research scholars at IIT (ISM) and aims to strengthen Indo-Russian academic cooperation in mining and earth sciences.

The program, known as the Summer/Winter School, is being conducted with support from UNESCO and funded by the International Centre for Competence in Mining Engineering Education. It marks a significant step in expanding global academic partnerships for IIT (ISM).

Diverse Modules and Hands-On Training

The academic program is coordinated by Prof. Saurabh Datta Gupta, Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Geophysics at IIT (ISM). A total of 42 students and scholars from the institute are participating in the initiative.

The first batch commenced on June 16 with a module on Petroleum Geology. The program will run in phases until July 27, offering four specialised modules: Geology, Current Trends in the Oil and Gas Industry, Digital Mining, and Management in the Mineral Resource Complex.

Focus on Industry-Relevant Learning and Cultural Exchange

Officials said the structure of the Summer/Winter School is designed to offer a comprehensive academic and cultural experience. It features interactive lectures, hands-on training, masterclasses, and site visits to active industrial units.

Participants will also engage in cultural programs, including sightseeing and heritage tours, to gain exposure to Russian traditions and society.

The framework was finalized during a recent visit by a delegation from St. Petersburg Mining University to IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, where both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation in mining and earth sciences.
