Dhanbad, Oct 28: Prof R K Upadhyay, head of the Department of Mathematics and Computing, IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) has been elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences for 2023.
His outstanding research contributions in the field of Non-Linear Differential Equations have earned this fellowship.
Prof Upadhyay, who has over 24 years’ experience in teaching, started his career in the teaching profession in 1997 as a lecturer at SBS College of Engineering and Technology, Ferozpur, Punjab, and worked there till 2000.
An official said he joined IIT ISM Dhanbad as a senior lecturer in May 2000 and was elevated to Assistant Professor’s post in March 2003. He was promoted as Associate Professor in May 2009 and became a professor in 2010. He has been serving as HoD, Mathematics & Computing, IIT (ISM) since October 2021.
Prof Upadhyay’s present research interest lies in differential equations, ecological and environmental modelling, chaos modelling, mathematical ecology, nonlinear dynamics, dynamical system theory, population dynamics, reaction-diffusion modelling, Spatiotemporal pattern formations in ecology, E-epidemic modelling and virus dynamics, neural modelling.
A PhD degree holder of IIT Delhi, Prof Upadhyay is also a life member of various professional bodies including Association of Computability in Europe; Indian Mathematical Society; International Academy of Physical Sciences; Bio Mathematical Society of India; International Society of Computational Ecology, Hongkong and annual members of American Mathematical Society.
