IIT (ISM) Dhanbad students enter Top 5 of national Fluid Power Quiz

Dhanbad: Students of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad have secured a place among the Top 5 teams nationally in the FPC National Level Quiz Competition 2026, organised by the Fluid Power Society of India (FPSI).

The IIT (ISM) team comprises Vidhan Singh Vaish and Akshita Nagvanshi, students of Mining Machinery Engineering (MME) under the Department of Mechanical Engineering. They emerged among the five finalists after competing against around 500 teams from engineering colleges across the country.

The team is being mentored by Prof. Ajit Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Team clears multiple rounds

The competition featured multiple stages, including elimination rounds, quarter-finals and semi-finals. The IIT (ISM) team successfully cleared each stage to secure its place in the national Top 5.

The students will now compete for a place among the Top 3 teams in the Grand Finale, which will be held in physical mode in Coimbatore on October 5, 2026.

Mentor hails students’ performance

Commenting on the achievement, Prof. Ajit Kumar said reaching the Top 5 among nearly 500 participating teams was a significant accomplishment.

He attributed the performance to the students’ technical understanding, teamwork and dedication and expressed hope that they would deliver a strong performance in the Grand Finale.

Quiz promotes fluid power technology

The FPC National Level Quiz is aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of Fluid Power Technology, including hydraulics and pneumatics. It also seeks to encourage knowledge sharing, innovation and stronger interaction between academia and industry.

The achievement highlights the technical competence and competitive spirit of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad students and adds to the institute’s record in national-level technical competitions.
