Jamshedpur, June 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind alert for several districts across Jharkhand over the next week as conditions remain favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon.
Thunderstorm Alert for Multiple Districts
According to the latest forecast, isolated places in the northeastern districts of Sahibganj, Pakur, Godda, Dumka, Deoghar and Jamtara, along with the southern districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan, are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph on June 8.
The weather activity is expected to shift towards the southern and adjoining central parts of the state on June 9, impacting districts such as Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Gumla and Khunti. Similar conditions are likely across most parts of Jharkhand on June 10.
Strongest Activity Expected on June 11
Meteorologists said the most intense weather activity is likely on June 11, when isolated places in northeastern and adjoining central Jharkhand, including Dhanbad, Bokaro and Koderma, may experience gusty winds of 50-60 kmph.
The rest of the state is expected to witness thunderstorms with wind speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph.
Thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely to continue across Jharkhand on June 12 and 13, accompanied by intermittent rainfall.
Weather Systems Driving the Change
The prevailing weather pattern is being influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, along with a trough extending from East Uttar Pradesh to Telangana via Chhattisgarh. These systems are supporting moisture incursion and thunderstorm development over eastern India.
The expected rainfall is likely to bring relief from the heat and humidity experienced across several districts in recent days.

Residents Welcome Rain Forecast
“The weather has become increasingly uncomfortable due to high humidity over the past few days. The forecast of rain is welcome news for us, especially after the recent spell of sultry conditions,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Mango in Jamshedpur.
“Evening showers over the last few days have brought noticeable relief. We hope the upcoming rain spell helps bring temperatures down further,” said Neha Srivastava, a resident of Adityapur.
Monsoon Advances Further
The southwest monsoon continued its advance on June 7, covering additional parts of the west-central and northeastern Bay of Bengal, the entire states of Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, and parts of Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Weather experts said conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further over the next two to three days into more parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and northeastern India.
For Jharkhand, the advancing monsoon current and favourable weather systems are expected to boost rainfall activity in the coming days, signalling the gradual onset of the rainy season.
The IMD has advised residents to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take precautions during thunderstorms and lightning events.
