Ranchi, May 3: All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) President Dr Samar Basak today said that the Eye Donation Awareness Club and Kashyap Memorial Eye Bank are doing very good work.

Dr Basak said they should now work with organizations working towards blood donation.

He said that the eye donation awareness campaign should be conducted among students from class nine to 12 and people from old age homes.

Dr Basak was here  to attend the 21st annual conference of Ophthalmologists under the aegis of Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society. He was the chief guest at a Deferred Live Surgery session organized at Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, Ranchi.

It was seen by all the eye doctors of Jharkhand present in the auditorium of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital and question-answer sessions with the operating guest surgeons immensely benefitted the Jharkhand Eye surgeons.

Young dynamic eye surgeons duo Dr Bibbhuti Kashyap and Dr Nidhi Gadkar Kashyap organised the deferred Live Surgery session at Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital.

Notably, the Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society was honoured with the Best State Society award for Outstanding Educational and Scientific Activities for the second consecutive time at the 82nd annual convention of the All-India Ophthalmological Society recently.

Jharkhand Excellence Award

The foot soldiers of the society and different teaching institutions with district-level societies were honoured with the Jharkhand Excellence Award by Dr Samar Basak, the President of All India Ophthalmological Society.

The institutions and doctors who were honoured with the Jharkhand Excellence Award were – Rio RIMS Ranchi, Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital Ranchi, CCL Ranchi, Bokaro General Hospital, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad Eye Society, Dr Pinky Pal, Dr Pritish Pronoy, and Dr Rashi Shyam.

11 types of new techniques were demonstrated: Dr Bharti

Chairperson of the Scientific Committee of Jharkhand Eye Society, Dr. Bharti Kashyap said 11 types of new surgical techniques for different parts of the eyes were demonstrated during the deferred live surgery Session.

Dr BP Kashyap, others demonstrate safe techniques

Noted eye surgeon Dr B. P. Kashyap, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr Arvind Maurya and Dr Partho Biswas demonstrated different new safe techniques in hardened and ripe white cataracts Deferred Live Surgery during the first cataract session.

It was seen by all the eye doctors and postgraduate students of Jharkhand.

They explained how a sewing needle microcapsulotomy method was used to safely open the central anterior capsule in mature white cataracts where the risk of capsule rupture during surgery is very high.

They also demonstrated the latest cutting technology for extremely hardened cataracts using the Terminator Chopper and Mohan Rajan Chopper.

Eye surgeons get to know new techniques

Eye surgeons came to know about newer trifocal IOLs eg Vivinex Gemetric and Gemetric Plus and the new Mono Focal Plus IOL. Vivinex Impress which was also implanted in the patients. Relatively cheaper and affordable trifocal Triphobic IOL was also implanted in patients in deferred live surgery sessions.

Glaucoma session 

In Glaucoma Session Dr Saheban Sethi displayed the new technology of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). This new technology has emerged as a revolutionary ray of hope for glaucoma patients. It is highly safer than existing conventional glaucoma surgeries, with less trauma to the eye and quicker recovery. MIGS can be done in the initial stage of glaucoma to save the eyesight from irreversible loss, whereas traditional surgeries cannot be done in the initial stage.

The droopy eyelids surgery Muller’s Muscle Conjunctival Resection (MMCR) was demonstrated by Dr Akshay Nair.

Jharkhand’s renowned eye surgeon Dr B. P. Kashyap gave important tips related to the implantation technique of IPCL which is indicated in high minus power patients, patients with thin cornea or dry eyes in which Lasik laser cannot be done.
