Lucknow, Jan 31: IPS officer Prashant Kumar has been appointed as the Uttar Pradesh’s acting Director General of Police (DGP).
The current acting Director General of Police, Vijay Kumar, who is retiring today, will be replaced by him.
He was congratulated upon his appointment by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A decorated IPS officer recognized for exemplary service
Prashant Kumar is an IPS officer from the 1990 batch.
Prior to this, during the Ayodhya Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha, he served as Director General of Law and Order of Uttar Pradesh.

Prashant Kumar has received multiple honors from the CISF, ITBP and UP Police for his service, all of which are a testament to his devotion to duty and dedication to duty.
Among his many accolades are the 2011 DG CISF DISC, Silver and Gold Disc commendations from DGs ITBP, and various recognitions including Platinum, Gold and Silver Disc awards from DGs UP Police.
He is noteworthy for having received the esteemed Kumbh Seva Medal, a CMOS Service Police Medal. Additionally, he received the PMG honors in 2021 and 2022 from the First and Second Bars, respectively.
