Jamshedpur, May 16: As residents in Jamshedpur suburbs continue to cope with the acute drinking water crisis, candidates in the fray for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat are shying away from carrying out the campaigning there.
NDA candidate Bidyut Varan Mahto
While the NDA candidate from the Jamshedpur LS constituency, Bidyut Varan Mahto is concentrating his campaigning in the rural areas of the constituency, the INDI alliance candidate Samir Mohanty is trying to woo the voters living in the localities that fall under Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) where there is no such water crisis visible.

JMM nominee Samir Mohanty
Samir Mohanty who is Baharagora legislator from JMM, confirmed that he had to confront a group of agitated residents of Bagaan Sahi in Mango on Wednesday over the prevailing drinking water crisis there.
“Yes, I had gone to a locality called Bagaan Sahi in Mango on Wednesday for campaigning where the residents had raised the matter related to the acute drinking water problem that persists there. I assured the anxious residents that a permanent solution to the drinking water problem would come once I am elected as an MP from the Jamshedpur LS seat, ” replied Mohanty while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
Mohanty doesn’t want to face angry residents
Later it was learned that the INDI alliance candidate prompted to hold a poll campaign at Kadma and Sonari localities which fall under the JNAC area of the constituency, apparently deciding not to face a similar situation about the drinking water issue like the residents of Bagaan Sahi, which is one of the densely-populated localities in Mango.
A similar situation during the electioneering involving the drinking water problem prevails in Bagbera and Harharguttu localities situated in the northeastern fringe of the steel city.
The INDI candidate, Samir Mohanty, is hardly visiting Bagbera and Harharguttu for campaigning due to the same issue — acute drinking water problem.
Potka JMM MLA also absent
Moreover, the Potka legislator, Sanjeev Sardar who is from the ruling JMM is also conspicuously absent from the localities hit by the water problem.
The NDA candidate, Bidyut Baran Mahto could not be contacted for his comment on the drinking water issue. But the sources in BJP revealed that the party functionaries are carrying out just cosmetic campaigning in the areas where the acute drinking water problem exists in Mango and other fringe parts of the Steel City.
It may be mentioned here that most of the residents in Mango and localities like Bagbera and Harharguttu are compelled to run their lives by buying potable water at excessive prices as almost all the tube wells have gone defunct and the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation is making a scanty supply of the drinking water.
