Jamshedpur, Feb 11: A 50-year-old fruit dealer was critically injured after being shot at by two bike-borne criminals at Namda Bustee under the Golmuri police station area in Jamshedpur on Wednesday morning.

The victim, identified as Kanhaiya Yadav, sustained multiple bullet injuries and has been admitted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where his condition is stated to be critical.

Attack Took Place Near Golmuri Police Station

According to reports, Kanhaiya Yadav had gone to a nearby stadium for his morning walk. The attackers opened fire when he was coming out of the stadium on his motorcycle.

Significantly, the incident occurred barely 100 metres from the Golmuri police station, triggering panic in the locality.

Following the gunfire, chaos broke out in the area, and passersby fled in fear.

Within minutes, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Golmuri police station reached the spot and rushed the injured man to Tata Main Hospital.

The two assailants managed to flee from the scene on their motorcycle.

Victim Sustained Three Bullet Injuries

Police sources said the fruit trader sustained three bullet injuries in the attack.

Preliminary suspicion points towards an old enmity as the possible motive behind the shooting. However, investigators have not yet identified the attackers.

Police Launch Probe, Await Victim’s Statement

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunil Kumar said the police have started probing the gun attack.

“We have begun an investigation into the shooting, but as of now, no clue about the attackers has been established. We are trying to trace them using technical support,” the DSP told The Jharkhand Story.

He added that the police are waiting to record the victim’s statement, but Kanhaiya Yadav is currently not in a condition to speak. The police, however, expressed hope of cracking the case soon.
