PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, April 8: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, police in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur seized 20 cartons of banned cough syrup during a raid at a transport agency in the Jugsalai area.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Jugsalai police station conducted a surprise inspection at Bolbam Transport Agency, recovering a large consignment of the prohibited cough syrup ‘Onrex’, commonly misused for its intoxicating effects.

Supply Chain Under Scanner
Preliminary investigation suggests the consignment originated from Ranchi and was being routed into Jamshedpur for distribution.
Officials said those present at the transport agency failed to produce valid documents for the shipment, leading to the seizure.
One Detained, Probe On
One person has been detained for questioning, while police are working to identify others involved in the supply chain.
Investigators are now focusing on tracing the source, intended recipients, and scale of the network, amid suspicion of a wider organised racket.
Police sources indicated that a case under the NDPS Act is being registered. Authorities are also probing possible links to inter-district or larger drug networks.
The seizure has raised fresh concerns over the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs as narcotics and the role of transport networks in facilitating illegal trade.
