Jamshedpur, Feb 13: Panic gripped Dehradun after a burst of gunfire near the busy Rajpur Road area on Friday morning left a Jamshedpur-based gangster dead.

Vikram Sharma, identified as a gangster from Jamshedpur, was shot dead in what police suspect to be a targeted attack.

Shot outside gym

According to preliminary information, Sharma had just stepped out of a gym near Silver City and was returning when unidentified assailants opened fire at close range. Witnesses said multiple gunshots were heard, forcing pedestrians and motorists to run for cover.

Despite the early hour, Rajpur Road—one of Dehradun’s prominent stretches—usually witnesses steady movement, adding to the shock among locals. The attackers reportedly fled immediately after the shooting.

Sharma was found critically injured on the roadside. Residents alerted the police, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police probe, CCTV scan

Police teams cordoned off the area and temporarily disrupted traffic as forensic experts examined the scene. Several empty cartridges were recovered. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities confirmed that Sharma had known criminal links in Jamshedpur and was believed to be associated with organised crime networks in and around the steel city. Police sources said he had a history of criminal cases, including alleged involvement in extortion and violent offences.

His recent stay in Dehradun is also under scrutiny, with investigators probing whether he was attempting to expand operations, evade rivals, or lie low.

Motive unclear

The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Police have not ruled out gang rivalry, personal enmity, or business disputes as possible reasons. A manhunt has been launched, and multiple teams are working to trace the suspects.
