Jamshedpur, March 5: In an inspiring feat of determination, Deepti Khemani, a Jamshedpur-based homemaker, has successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, at the age of 53.
Her achievement has brought pride to the city and serves as a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to pursuing ambitious goals.
Reached Uhuru Peak
Deepti reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 metres above sea level, on February 27 at 7:45 am.

After completing the climb, she received a summit certificate from the Tanzania National Parks Authority, which manages the country’s national parks.
Inspired by Indian mountaineer
A resident of CH Area and a mother of two, Deepti drew inspiration from veteran Indian mountaineer Premalata Agarwal, who is among the oldest Indian women to summit Mount Everest.
What began as a recreational interest gradually developed into a serious passion, eventually leading her to take on the demanding Kilimanjaro expedition.
A challenging expedition
Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s most popular trekking destinations. However, its high altitude and rugged terrain require intense physical training, mental resilience and careful acclimatisation.
Reaching the summit is widely regarded as a significant milestone in mountaineering.
Family support behind success
Reflecting on her journey, Deepti credited her family for their unwavering encouragement.
She acknowledged the support of her husband Prakash Khemani, a businessman, along with her son Ojaswi, daughter-in-law Eva and daughter Vidushi, for motivating her to pursue adventure alongside her responsibilities as a homemaker.
Inspiration for many
Her achievement has been widely applauded by residents and adventure enthusiasts in Jamshedpur.
Many see her success as a reminder that determination, preparation and courage can help individuals pursue new challenges at any stage of life.
