Jamshedpur, Nov 5: Residents of Kapali area near Mango staged a gherao of Kapali TOP in protest against the murder of a 25-year-old youth on Saturday night.
Identified as Ragib Alam (25), a resident of Gangudih in Kapali, the murder victim was shot dead by a gang of five-six assailants near Albela Garden in Kapali.
As Ragib fell upon being shot, some locals rushed him to Tata Main Hospital where he was declared as brought dead.
Soon after the residents had gathered near the Kapali TOP and staged a gherao, demanding the arrest of the assailants. The gherao which continued till the small hours on Sunday was lifted after the Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Vimal Kumar reached there and assured the protestors of necessary action against those involved in the murder.
Sub-inspector, Sandeep Kumar of Kapali Thana said Ragib Alam was murdered as he had mediated between the two warring groups who had clashed between themselves over something late in the afternoon.
“In the evening, two groups of youths, several of them students of Karim City College, had clashed between themselves over something in Kapali. The warring youths eventually dispersed following the intervention of Ragib. But a faction of the youths re-emerged at the spot where they had clashed in the evening and suddenly launched a gun-shot attack on Ragib, causing him to sustain a bullet in the head, ” said Sandeep Kumar while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
Kumar who is the officer-in-charge of the Kapali TOP said that those killed Ragib have already been identified, but they are absconding.
