Dubai, Jan 28: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been awarded the esteemed Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year at the ICC Awards, in recognition of his exceptional performance in 2024, where he outshone opponents in both the longest and shortest formats of the game.
The bowling maestro triumphed over fellow nominees Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook to claim the title, becoming the fifth Indian to receive the award, following in the footsteps of Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018).
Bumrah achieved the distinction of being the first Indian fast bowler to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Award.

He was also declared the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year on Monday and was also included in the Test Team of the Year.
Bumrah claimed 71 Test wickets in just 13 matches, the highest by any bowler in 2024, and second only to Kapil Dev for the most by an Indian fast bowler in a single calendar year.
Bumrah was a standout performer in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 where he claimed 15 wickets with an impressive average of 8.26 and an exceptional economy rate of 4.17, earning him the Player of the Tournament honour.
