Ranchi, Nov 28: The long-pending stipends of interns, externs, Post Graduate (PG) students, and Senior Residents (SR) of Jharkhand medical colleges are set to increase soon.

Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari assured this when a delegation of the Junior Doctors’ Network (JDN) from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH), Jamshedpur, met him in Ranchi on Thursday evening.

JDN State General Secretary Dr. Raghvendra Kumar said the Health Minister informed the delegation that the file regarding the revised stipend has been completed and will soon be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.

Positive Signals from Senior Officials

The delegation also met Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Health Ajay Kumar Singh and Government Joint Secretary Lalit Mohan Shukla. Both officials reportedly gave positive signals toward implementing the revised stipend at the earliest.

“We plan to meet the Health Minister and ACS Health again in 10 to 15 days to follow up for early approval of the stipend,” said Dr. Raghvendra Kumar.

Delegation Members

The MGMMCH JDN President Dr. Ganesh Srivastava led the delegation. Other members included Dr. Jahagir, Dr. Salman, Dr. Himanshu Modi, Dr. D. Kumar, and Dr. Rishav Das.

Revised Stipend Structure

Once approved, the revised stipend will benefit interns and externs of MGMMCH Jamshedpur, SNMMCH Dhanbad, PJMCH Dumka, SBMCH Hazaribagh, and MMCH Palamu.

Interns will receive Rs. 25,000 per month, up from the current Rs. 17,500, while externs, who currently receive nothing, will also receive Rs. 25,000 per month.

PG students will see their stipend increase significantly: Rs. 80,000 in the 1st year, Rs. 85,000 in the 2nd year, and Rs. 90,000 in the 3rd year. At present, PG students receive Rs. 54,000, Rs. 58,500, and Rs. 63,500, respectively. These students serve at MGMMCH Jamshedpur and SNMMCH Dhanbad.
